KU’s World War I Memorial Walk runs along Memorial Drive at the northeast corner of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in front of the University of Kansas Conference Center and leads to the Garlinghouse Plaza.
Designed as a place for reflection and learning, the landscaped memorial walk features large aluminum panels displaying the names of the 130 KU students, faculty, and staff members who lost their lives during World War I. To place this loss within the global scope and human cost of the war, additional panels include select stories of fallen Jayhawks, a timeline of the war, and maps of key battles.
The KU World War I Memorial Walk was dedicated Aug. 29, 2025, during the rededication of the renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, which was initially completed in 1922 and dedicated as KU’s first WWI memorial on Armistice Day, Nov. 11 of that year.
The memorial walk was created with consulting from Christopher Warren, the vice president of curatorial affairs and chief curator at the National World War I Museum and Memorial, located in Kansas City, Missouri. Multistudio, KU’s partner on the KU Gateway District project, created the artwork and final design of the memorial panels.
